Translation Technology

Translation and localisation of the vast volume of today’s digital content necessitates the use of state-of-the-art technology. In order for translated content to reach potential markets overseas in a timely and cost-effective manner, the use of Computer-Assisted Translation tools (CAT tools) and Translation Management Systems (TMS) is paramount.

Translated content is dynamically stored in such database systems for future retrieval and reuse, ensuring maximum productivity and efficiency. It is further scrutinised, using QA (quality assurance) checks to eliminate orthographic errors, ensure consistent use of terminology, correctly localised content, as well as accurate transference of non-linguistic content like formatting and layout, resulting in the highest possible quality translations.

Translation memory – the core component in CAT Tools

Translated content is saved in client-specific Translation Memory databases (TMs), ensuring that terminology specific to each client is always translated consistently. In the expanding TM, there will be an increasing amount of content that has been translated previously. Such content is charged at a much lower rate than completely new content, resulting in increased savings in translation costs over time.

At Comunica, we use the most up-to-date version of the market-leading systems. We predominantly use memoQ Server, SDL Trados Studio, WorldServer, Memsource and Wordfast. We also have an experienced CAT tools trainer in-house, who ensures that our members of staff continuously undergo rigorous training in the most optimal use of these systems.

Business Management Technology

At Comunica, we keep track of our tasks and processes via our own customised CRM system, which in the near future will become fully integrated with our Translation Technology Systems, enhancing productivity and efficiency even further.

Communication

Effective communication between members of staff is also paramount in any company. We have recently adopted the dynamic communication tool Slack for that purpose. Slack is great for sharing communication in the appropriate channels between our Project Managers, Technicians and Freelance Translators. We can also share documents and our screens effortlessly as well as making voice and video calls quickly and easily. Any issues or doubts are communicated and solved in an instant.
